Restorative Measures consist of deep cleaning using a Hot Water extractor to remove embedded abrasive soil. There are five critical steps to effective restorative cleaning:
1. Dry soil removal (vacuuming) - A pile preparation tool (groomer) is used to untangle the fiber of deep pile carpeting and precedes dry vacuuming
Soil Suspension – Soil suspension is the most CRITICAL steps in effective carpet cleaning. Soil suspension is accomplished by spraying the carpet to be cleaned with an approved Pre-treatment and allowing a dwell time of at least 5 –15 minutes
3. Soil Extraction – in order to achieve effective cleaning suspended soils must be removed physically (extracted or rinsed) using a carpet extractor with, according to CRI, a minimum of a 55 psi pump and 100 inches of water lift. Water temperature should NOT exceed 140 degrees (a heater is not only not necessary but discouraged) “Shampoo” must be anionic and have a pH of less than 8.5
4. Pile Setting (finishing or grooming) Generally Pile Setting, involves the use of a pile-grooming rake that stands up the pile allowing it to dry faster and in its original factory finish.
5. Drying – Cleaning is not complete until the carpet is thoroughly dry and ready to be trafficked. Use of adequate natural or mechanical ventilation should leave the carpet thoroughly dried in under 3 hour hours. Humidity or environmental conditions may extend the drying time, but under NO circumstances should the drying time ever exceed 12 hours.
After the carpet is dry and furniture replaced, the carpet should again be thoroughly dry vacuumed to remove any crystallized chemical that is left behind. Modern high end carpet cleaning solutions use micro encapsulation that ensures no re-soiling, and “encapsulate” soil. Dry vacuuming removes the last bit of soil in your carpet.
